These prints are a result of time spent in the Marseille region of France in summer 2012, funded by the J D Fergusson Travel Award.
My aim was to capture the layering of shapes and textures found in the winding streets of Marseille. Shops and galleries decorate the lower levels of the buildings, while higgledy-piggledy houses rise into the sky, jostling for space. Layers of paint are left peeling back in the hot sunshine, revealing the history of the buildings around.
Relief and screen print using handcut blocks, photo separations and found objects.
