Contemporary mixed-media printmaking and luxury printed silks
I am an artist/printmaker creating mixed-media prints in my studio in Kyle of Lochalsh, in the north west Highlands of Scotland. All of my prints are hand-pulled and are either very limited edition or completely unique. I use printmaking techniques in various forms to create fine art prints as well as hand-printed luxury accessories for men and women.
My artwork centres around printmaking, predominantly relief printing and screenprinting. Working with a variety of surfaces and materials, including hand made paper and board, I create prints which explore colour, shape and pattern.
I love to travel and I take a lot of inspiration from the places I visit. The way that nature weathers built structures and softens their harsh edges really interests me. Taking photographs – and sometimes rubbings of textures – to work from, I break down these shapes and patterns into simple layers which I then print, and overprint, to begin building back up the history of the place.
I have exhibited my work both locally around the Isle of Skye and Lochalsh, and also across the country in various galleries. I’m taking a break from my own arts practice at the moment to focus on my business and raising my two young children, and helping them discover their own creativity.
