It is possible to find solutions for framing heavy objects such as this Isle of Skye slate. It was a retirement gift for a local lady and she took it in along with her own tweed fabric so that they could sit together in the frame. We chose to frame it without glass so that the surfaces and textures of the slate and the fabric could be seen more easily. A stained ash frame surrounds the fabric, which has been recessed to hold the slate.
Slate can be difficult to display as it is a heavy object, and this particular piece wouldn’t be able to sit upright on its own. It was important to add as little extra weight as possible to the overall frame since the slate itself is heavy to begin with. I enjoy finding creative solutions to allow framing heavy objects such as this slate, so that they can be hung on the wall safely and securely, and enjoyed.
This Isle of Skye slate was made by Slated Gifts and was bought locally at the fab Love from Skye in Broadford.
